What can a business card do for me?
Business cards are one of the most commonly used, yet unmatched methods of advertising yourself as a company or individual upon first introductions to a potential client. Implementing this with a clever, eye catching design and layout, makes for a powerful memory aid to anyone who needs future services.
Using a designing company that has good working knowledge of business card design techniques is very important to achieving this. Business cards are not only a very effective marketing tool, that will help smaller companies or individuals advertise themselves but can be very cost effective at the same time.
What kind of business cards can I get?
The general weight or density of a paper that a business card is printed onto is 350g/m2 and are generally sized at 90mm x 50mm. Some business cards vary in size intentionally for design purposes, making their card stand out in a stack of competitor’s cards.
There are two major types of business cards when dealing with colour selection.
- The first is known as spot colour. High quality business cards without full-color photographs are normally printed using a few spot colors. Certain colours have even been trademarked by some companies, associating the colour with their branding. A business card with the text being one colour and the logo in another colour is called a two spot colour. Additional spot colours can be added depending on the design of the card. It is now much more cost effective to print business cards with digital batch printing using this method. Spot colours should be used for simple cards with line art or non-black type.
- The second type of business card printing is known as full colour. These cards use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) process. The full colour allows for more colours to be used compared to the spot colour printing but can be less detailed in some cases due to the amount of colour overlay on a very small area.
A UV glossy coat can also be applied to a business card as a spot colour. Using this method allow for some areas to be gloss and others not. This opens a door for more design methods, giving an embossed and/or shiny look to certain areas where needed.
- Digital business cards have emerged due to recent technological advances. They are shaped similar to standard business cards and are able to fit into a standard CD-ROM drive, holding around 100MB of data which can include dynamic information about your company and services.
